SRDC: Hard Hike: 100m Waterfall Toroyacu, Atún Rumi Rock + ViewPoint

Surrounded by lush cloud forest rich in orchids and birds. “Toroyacu” refers to the thunder-like sound of the 100m high, falling water. Atún Rumí Impressive rock slab: a single, massive stone—about 130 m long and 30 m wide. Lookout points of the Cordillera Escalera.

Itinerary:

  • 6am early start from Tarapoto
  • 7am Drive to VistaAlegre
  • 8am Farmers Breakfast
  • 9am: 2-3 Hour hike to Waterfall Toroyacu
  • 12pm: Lunch at the waterfall, relax in the many pools and take in this sacred sight.
  • 2pm: Hike to Atún Rumi: Discover the small rock a fascinating natural phenomenon in the heart of the forest.
  • Dry Lagoon: Venture towards a unique dry lagoon, where you may spot the elusive spotted bear, delicate orchids, and a variety of birds such as tanagers, toucans, and hummingbirds.
  • Cordillera Escalera Lookout Point: Continue your hike upwards to this stunning viewpoint, offering panoramic vistas of the lush rainforest.
  • Walk down into the village of San Roque de Cumbaza
  • 6pm: A delicias meal in restaurant Folklorica.
  • 7pm: Conclude your tour with a relaxing moto taxi ride back to Tarapoto.
