Guided by artist and local resident Trina Brammah, this experience invites you to gently stretch your comfort zone and step into an exploratory, nature-based adventure. We have been invited by a Kechwa Lamista community to spend time learning, observing, and respectfully participating in aspects of Indigenous daily life.
Depending on the condition of the road, we may hike in and out of the community, or drive part of the way. The hike can be long and steep — a full day uphill when walking — so this journey is not suited to very light or leisurely travelers.
We are welcomed into the home of Maribel and Genix, generous hosts who share their space and stories with warmth. Genix is a gifted storyteller, and during our stay we may hear traditional tales about nature spirits, the forest, and community life.
There is time to explore the surrounding landscape: hiking to a beautiful waterfall, cleansing in mineral-rich waters, fishing, or wandering through the forest and learning quietly from it. Ideally, we stay three nights, allowing the experience to unfold slowly and respectfully.
This is a low-impact, invitation-based journey — one that asks for curiosity, resilience, and deep respect for the people and the land who make it possible.
This is not a tourist show: it is a physically demanding journey built on trust, reciprocity, and respect. Numbers are limited to protect the community and the forest.
Who it’s for: travelers with good fitness, curiosity, and cultural sensitivity.
Who it’s not for: anyone seeking luxury, has too many dietary restrictions or carry false expectations.
Trina will be your guide throughout, supporting translation, navigation, and cultural etiquette, ensuring the experience remains safe and deeply respectful for all involved.
For those seeking a truly unique and transformative experience, this route through Roots of the Amazon provides a great adventure—a deep dive into the heart of the rainforest and the wisdom of the Kechwa Lamista people.
