4-5 Day Creative Jungle Retreat with Natural Pigments & Ceramics

Day 1 – Hike, Harvest, and Ceramic’s in the home of an indigenous artisan

Settle into your lodgings at Selva Sentiente. You will have the opportunity to spend time with the resident artists of Sachaqa Centro de Arte and are invited into the studio where you can feel part of a creative community.

Your creative journey begins with a short jungle walk to the home of Petrona, a local artisan.

At Petrona’s home, you’ll shape a simple ceramic bowl by hand, then paint your pot with colored earth.

Along the wayback, we’ll collect natural pigments from the earth: oranges, brown & yellows.

After the hike, enjoy a peaceful afternoon: Swim in the Cumbaza River, Dine at one of the family-owned restaurants in the nearby town.

Collect natural pigments along the River Cumbaza, we can learn to identify the rocks we can use in painting.


Day 2 – Pigment preparation, Studio Time & River Rest

In the morning, return to the studio where Trina will guide you in transforming pigments into beautiful natural paints. You will learn about the process of making earth and plant pigments into durable paint.

Spend the day immersed in creativity. Whether you’re painting in the studio, swimming in the river, or relaxing in a hammock, this day is yours to enjoy and create at your own rhythm.


Day 3 – River Confluence Hike

We’ll hike to a stunning natural site where the Añakiwi and Cumbaza rivers meet. Along the trail, you can gather more pigments to add new textures and colors to your artwork.

Return to the studio for a final painting session or just soak in the peace of the jungle surroundings.


Day 4 – We’ll travel to the nearby town of Lamas, a center of indigenous Quechua-Lamista culture. Pottery Firing & Farewell

Journey by moto taxi to the indigenous town of Lamas. We’ll visit the home of Gillermina in the center of indigenous Quechua-Lamista culture. Fire your pot in a shuntu fire. This is an indigenous immersive experience. Your luggage will be delivered to your hotel or airport.

3-Day Retreat, Weave: Palm, Basket and a Chumbe belt and Ceramics class.

Day 1 – Hike & Harvest with Don Angel (or Just Start Weaving)

Begin your journey with a guided hike to the land of Don Angel, a respected local craftsman. Along the way, you’ll gather natural materials traditionally used for basket weaving.

Prefer to skip the hike? No problem — you can dive straight into the weaving process at the studio.

The basket weaving class is flexible and self-paced. This intricate and meditative process can take as long as you like — there’s no rush here.


Day 2 – Pigment preparation course or Chocolate making in the home of Segunda

Learn the process of making the cocoa bean into healthy chocolate in the home of Segunda.

In the studio Trina will guide you in transforming pigments into beautiful natural paints. You will learn about the process of making earth and plant pigments into durable paint.


Continue your basket weaving, adding detail and learning new patterns with the guidance of local artisans.

The second day is for rest and renewal in San Roque de Cumbaza. Swim in the tranquil Cumbaza River, stroll through the village, and enjoy its welcoming local restaurants.


Day 3 – Cultural Weaving & Clay Work in Lamas

We’ll travel to the nearby town of Lamas, a center of indigenous Quechua-Lamista culture. Here, you’ll learn to weave a chumbe — a traditional woven belt filled with symbolism.

In the afternoon, wind down with ceramic work, crafting and decorating your own clay bowl using local techniques.
