1-4 Day Family Vacation

The village of San Roque de Cumbaza offers a variety of ecolodges and cabins for families. The river Cumbaza provides many amazing beaches where the kids can swim and the parents relax. There is a large football pitch for sports.

Visit the home of a Kechwa potter + walk along the river with birdwatching expert

  • We begin our adventure with a gentle walk to the home of Petrona, a kind and patient local artisan. For smaller children, a moto-taxi ride is available to make the journey easier. Here, the children will enjoy a hands-on ceramic experience, shaping their own simple bowls using ancestral techniques. Afterward, we return to San Roque de Cumbaza for a relaxed lunch at a local village restaurant, followed by an afternoon of swimming and exploring the many small river beaches along the Cumbaza.
  • Begin your day with a early morning walk with birdwatching expert Hugo. The soft light and gentle sounds of the river provide the perfect backdrop for birdwatching.
Keep your eyes peeled for the stunning Blue-gray Tanager, the elegant White-winged Swallow, and the captivating Amazon Kingfisher, among other remarkable species.

Cacao, Culture + River Beach and Relax

  • This gentle adventure is perfect for families wanting to explore the Amazon through taste, tradition, and play. We begin with a visit to a local cacao farm, where children and parents can see the full journey of the cacao plant—from the trees and pods. We then return to the cozy home of Segunda, where you’ll learn how to transform cacao into rich, handmade chocolate using simple ancestral methods.
  • The second day is all about rest and riverside fun. Enjoy the calm pace of San Roque de Cumbaza, with its many small beaches along the Cumbaza River—perfect for swimming, exploring, or just hanging in a hammock.
  • On our final day, we travel to Lamas, a vibrant town with a deep Kechwa heritage. In the traditional neighborhood of Wayku, your family can choose to make a simple ceramic piece or weave a basic Chumbe belt alongside local artisans. Wrap up the day with a stroll through the town’s ice cream shops and a visit to the cultural museum.

Family Expedition to Pacaya Samiria

For adventurous families, this journey into the heart of the Amazon is unforgettable. We begin with a full day of travelby road and river to reach the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve—a wild and remote protected area known as the “jungle of mirrors.” Though the first day is long and physically demanding, it sets the stage for an incredible experience.

Over the next three days, we travel by traditional rowing boat, gently navigating flooded forests and winding blackwater rivers. Children will love spotting pink river dolphins, monkeys, and tropical birds, while parents soak in the stillness and depth of the landscape. With no motors, the reserve stays peaceful—just the sound of paddles, wildlife, and water.

This trip is ideal for families who are up for a challenge, ready to unplug, and eager to experience the rainforest in its purest form.
